LOGISTICS TERMINOLOGY IN MODERN ENGLISH: SOCIOLINGUISTIC APPROACH
Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the English Logistics terminology from the sociolinguistic perspective. It reveals the peculiarities of sociolinguistics as a science, as well as the features of sociolinguistic approach to the analysis of terminological lexis, namely, the study of influence of different social phenomena on the development and dynamics of terminology. The authors come to the conclusion that the English Logistics terminology is dominated by one-component terms and two-component terminological word combinations. A significant part of the English multi-component terminological units in Logistics are abridged and abbreviated both to economize language/speech means and to accelerate the process of professional communication in the sphere in question. The fact is stressed that the English abbreviation does not always correspond to the equivalent/analog Russian abbreviation that leads to the use of the English abbreviation in the Russian text or its expansion.
