Abstract

Proverbs represent the essence of a language. They are filled with cultural and linguistic characteristics. Proverbs describing a person are one of the most often used categories that play an important role in our daily life. There are many proverbs of this type in Russian and Chinese. Their similarity in semantics and rhetoric demonstrates the human’s commonness in cognition and thinking, while their differences in formal structure, metaphor image and source of precedent reveal the individuality of Russian and Chinese and their respective cultures.
